FARMINGTON CONFERENCE CENTER NEWS

Russian Baptists return to Farmington Conference Center

One of the most prolific groups to make FCC a destination point is the young adults of the two Russian Baptist churches in the Greater Portland area.  It is unlikely that most people would associate Maine with folks of Russian decent.  In reality there is a growing and thriving Russian community in Maine that has founded two phenomenal churches: the First Russian Church in Gorham and the Russian Baptist Church in Portland.  The teens from these two churches have come multiple time per year.  A large group comes every June to help open the camp up, clean the grounds, sanitize the kitchen and bathrooms, rake and mow -- and they have a great time doing it! It was this group that asked the camp directors to install a special flag pole so they could have a flag raising and devotionals each morning.  Each year, they have an average of 50 - 70 kids at camps coming during multiple weeks throughout the summer.  Last summer's highlight was the 'boat' races in the pond.  Teams made make-shift rafts out of wood, plastic, cardboard, and any building materials they could find.

FCC is Recipient of Major Gift

An anonymous donor from Texas made a wonderful and timely gift of $10,000 to the Center in memory of their parents - both pioneers in Southern Baptist work in Maine.  The gift came with the specific purpose that is must be used to finance the construction of a proposed multipurpose athletic field.  We are so appreciative of the gift since we have struggled to break ground for years and were waiting for the right starting point.  It looks like now is the time to 'cross the Jordan and take possession of the Land'.  The field has been cleared of trees and is now ready for the bulldozers.
